Seattle sounders x nashville sc
On a rainy Sunday evening at Lumen Field, Anibal Godoy scored in the 80th minute to give Nashville SC a 1-0 victory over Seattle Sounders FC to kick off both teams' 2022 MLS regular season. Because of the constant rain throughout the match, both teams struggled to create clear-cut opportunities for most of the game. In the end, thanks to Godoy's late heroics, it was the visitors who scored the game-winner
With star midfielder Hany Mukhtar, Nashville had arguably the finest look in the first half. In the 23rd minute, the 2021 MVP award finalist struck a low-driven shot from the top of the penalty box, only to be thwarted by a sprawling save by Sounders goalkeeper Stefan Frei.
As both teams looked for a game-winning goal in the second half, Godoy scored the game-winner 10 minutes after the final whistle, just moments after Seattle substitute Leo Chu came close on the opposite end. The veteran midfielder pounced on a Randall Leal cross and converted a tap-in finish to silence the home crowd and give Nashville a crucial road win. Nashville SC put on a terrific display in a showdown between two Western Conference contenders, battling the conditions in one of the most difficult stadiums for opponents in MLS. Seattle's starting lineup was shuffled due to Concacaf Champions League commitments, but the Rave Green will be upset that they didn't make goalie Joe Willis' night more difficult.
