New England revolution x dc united
The Revs defeated DC United 1-0 in front of their home crowd. With this victory, New England moved up to eighth in the Eastern Conference rankings.
DC United received the ball to open the game and immediately pressed on the gas. They attempted to adopt the long ball strategy but immediately realized it was ineffective. They made a couple of quick passes until Sami Guediri handed the ball to Ravel Morrison in the center of the field in the fifth minute. Morrison grabbed the ball, sprinted straight up the field, through the middle, and fired a rocket. Unfortunately, Dorde Petrovic's outstanding diving save was unsuccessful. Six minutes later, Andrew Farrell produced a magnificent long cross from one side of the pitch to the other, finding Emmanuel Boateng. Boateng, who was being pursued by a defender, began running towards the goal, and just before he reached the goalie, he gave the ball to a sprinting Justin Rennicks, who tried to back-heel the ball into the net but missed the wide-open scoring opportunity. In the 18th minute, New England scored the game's only goal. Thomas McNamara began the set-play that resulted in the goal. Brandon Bye sprinted to the side of the net and delivered the ball in the middle to Carles Gil, who took the shot and scored.
Both sides began the second half with solid defense. Carles Gil nearly scored his second goal in the 71st minute, but he didn't get his feet perfect on the ball and his shot struck the post instead of the net. Taxiarchis Fountas kicked the ball from the side of the net in the 80th minute, but Petrovic put his hand on it at the last second to misdirect the ball leaving the match 1-0 after the full 90.
