portland thorns x Orlando pride
This game was all Portland. Portland came away with five goals, for a total of twenty-one goals this season, despite being in second place in the NWSL. Orlando, on the other hand, was not so lucky this season by giving up 24 goals this season and being in 11th place in the NWSL. Orlando had an opportunity in the 17th minute, but Bella Bixby made the save and a follow-up attempt was denied by the Portland defense. This led to Portland suddenly attacking and Sophia Smith, on the receiving end of the ball, having a breakaway, but was ultimately denied the shot as the defender touched the ball to send it off. Portland's first goal came in the 21st minute by Hina Sugita off an assist by Janine Beckie, who intercepted a ball that Orlando was trying to clear away. Four minutes later, Becky Sauerbrunn scored off of a rebound. It was a second-chance goal. Portland then took a commanding lead in the 63rd minute with a goal by Sophia Smith. Natalia Kuikka added on to that lead in the 79th minute. Sophia Smith would add the 5th goal for Portland and add a second goal for herself in this game. With a minute left in the game, you would think the goals would stop, but Taylor Porter had other plans as she scored the final goal for Portland.
