OL Reign x orlando pride
In front of a record-setting crowd of 10,746 at Lumen Field, the OL Reign defeated the Orlando Pride by the score of 3-0 to claim the NWSL Shield for the first time since 2015.
OL Reign didn't have to wait long to put one in the back of the net. Megan Rapinoe, who was making her 100th NWSL appearance, was assisted by striker Jordyn Huitema, who took advantage of a pass deflected by an Orlando defender and dribbled into the box. With one touch, OL Reign took the lead when Rapinoe sent the ball into the back of the net. OL Reign kept the pressure on and gained steam as they raced for the Shield. They would extend their advantage to 2-0 in the 24th minute. After receiving the ball from Lavelle in the center of the field, Quinn moved into space and threaded a pass through to Huitema in the forward third. Huitema's remarkable talent was on full display as she scored after outsmarting the goalie and two Orlando defenders.
Just seven minutes later, OL Reign scored another when Rapinoe found Jess Fishlock, a midfielder making an overlapping run, with a pass to the outside. Fishlock easily evaded her opponent with a single touch and sent a lofted ball into the penalty area. Balcer blazed through the area and volleyed the ball to the far post to make it 3-0. OL Reign maintained their dominance after halftime, limiting Orlando to just one shot on goal and preventing them from scoring at all. The atmosphere in the stadium was electric as OL Reign battled for the best seed in the playoff race. Despite the thrilling second half, neither team could score, and the OL Reign came out on top to win their third NWSL Shield.
