San Jose Earthquakes x LA Galaxy
Being in charge of your own postseason fate is the best-case scenario if you aren't the club that has already secured a spot in the playoffs. Despite the fact that the Galaxy are looking to lock in their own playoff spot, they can rest easy knowing that now they decide their own fate.
For the Galaxy to have any chance of winning away from home, they needed to get on the board first. In this match, they were successful in doing so, as Chicharito was the recipient of some excellent passing and found himself inside the penalty area. He made a beautiful move with his initial touch to create space and a good scoring opportunity, and then he completed the play by converting for the Galaxy. The team doubled their advantage just before halftime. A long-range effort from Gastón Brugman smacked the underside of the crossbar on its way to the back of the goal. As exciting as the first half was, the second half was as well. In the 69th minute, Chicharito was sent on his way by Alvarez, and he finished off the play with a beautiful pass and shot that put them up 3-0. With the home team fighting to prevent a shutout, they finally got on the board in the 74th minute. A penalty kick was handed to the Quakes, and when Cristian Espinoza came up to take it, he scored against Bond.
Thankfully, the final whistle sounded as the dust cleared, and the Galaxy came out on top of a crucial late-season duel with all three points.
