Columbus Crew x New England Revolution
This past weekend, the New England Revolution traveled to Lower.com Field to take on the Columbus Crew. After giving up an own goal in the 58th minute, the Crew rallied with multiple attempts for the following 40 minutes as the home team looked for an equalizer. Columbus upped the ante when New England's Dylan Borrero was sent off for a second yellow card offense in the 65th minute. At that point, the visitors were hunkering down in front of Dorde Petrovic's goal in an effort to preserve their slim 1-0 advantage.
The Black and Gold deserved to win, and they came very close to it when Zawadzki scored with a deft back-post header in the last minutes of regulation time. The second-year midfielder scored on just his second shot of the game, which came off a cross from Lucas Zelarayán in the 98th minute.
But then something occurred that ought to provide hope to all Crew supporters. The home team didn't rejoice as the ball sailed into the back of the goal. Instead, they cheered and sprinted back to their end of the field, where they could continue the game and try to score again. Their efforts, however, were in vain, and the score would end 1-1.
The Crew now has 14 points after eight games, enough for fourth place in the Eastern Conference. And most significantly, Columbus is playing better than ever before.
