Gotham FC x OL Reign
On Saturday, in front of a boisterous and enthusiastic audience at Gotham FC's home opener at Red Bull Arena, the OL Reign beat Gotham FC, 2-0. Lightning in the vicinity caused a 90-minute delay in the match. However, Gotham FC supporters demonstrated unwavering loyalty to their team despite being forced to wait out the storm in the stadium concourse and staying loud throughout the full 90 minutes.
In a high-scoring first period, both teams managed five goals. Midge Purce and Kristie Mewis combined for two great opportunities for Gotham FC in the 11th and 45th minutes.
After 31 minutes, Jess Fishlock opened the scoring after receiving a pass from Rose Lavelle and finishing in the lower right corner. In the 62nd minute, Bethany Balcer upped the score to 2-0 when she capitalized on a rebound from an OL Reign corner kick. Gotham kept up the pressure in the second half and even had a few good scoring opportunities in the dying minutes.
