Portland Timbers x Vancouver Whitecaps
The Portland Timbers defeated the Vancouver Whitecaps FC 3-1 on Saturday night at Providence Park, extending their undefeated record to three games. Evander would score twice for the Timbers to help Portland to a win at home after Franck Boli scored the game's first goal in the second minute.
Claudio Bravo regained possession of the ball in the midfield area in the second minute and slid a pass to Franck Boli on the outside of the penalty area. Boli drove the ball toward the net and blasted a low, powerful shot that went just inside the left post to make it an early 1-0 score.
After a flurry of passes later in the first half, Santiago Moreno found Juan David Mosquera, who was racing to the right post, with a short chip pass inside the box. Mosquera kept possession and found Evander in the six-yard box for the second goal of the game for the Timbers.
However, just a few minutes later, Ryan Gauld hit a streaking Julian Gressel with a ball beyond the defense. Zac McGraw tried to clear the ball away from danger after it was crossed into the box by Gressel, but the cross ended up going right off his flying legs and into the back of the net to make it 2-1.
Bravo combined with Yimmi Chara right outside the box in the 54th minute, and Chara found Evander 20 yards away for a shot on goal. To make it 3-1, Evander beat one Vancouver defender before firing a shot into the upper left corner of the net.
