Seattle Reign FC x Chicago Red Stars
The Seattle Reign's return home after a long road trip was spoiled by a 2-1 defeat to the Chicago Red Stars. Chicago wasted no time getting on the scoreboard, grabbing an early lead in the 4th minute and doubling their advantage before halftime. Seattle, on the back foot for most of the first half, struggled to contain the Red Stars' attack.
However, the Reign emerged from the break a different team. They played with a higher press, disrupting Chicago's rhythm and creating more scoring opportunities. Their persistence paid off in the 79th minute when substitute Tziarra King, who came on just two minutes prior, smashed a beautiful goal into the top corner. The Reign continued to push for an equalizer but ultimately ran out of time.
Despite the loss, there were positive takeaways for Seattle. Rookie forward Emeri Adames, the youngest player ever to start a regular season game for the club, impressed with two shots on target. Goalkeeper Laurel Ivory, making her first ever NWSL start, stood tall with a game-high six saves. Veteran midfielder Jess Fishlock tied a club record with her assist on King's goal, showcasing her leadership on and off the field. The Reign will look to learn from this match and bounce back stronger in their next outing.
