Seattle Sounders x New England Revolution
Seattle Sounders FC secured a commanding 2-0 victory over the New England Revolution at Lumen Field on Saturday evening. Goals from Jordan Morris and Albert Rusnák propelled Seattle to a perfect nine points from their three-match homestand, extending their unbeaten streak to five games (4-0-1). Stefan Frei delivered a standout performance with his fifth shutout of the season and the 110th of his MLS career, bringing him just two shy of the second all-time league record. The Sounders now shift focus to the 2024 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Quarterfinals against Sacramento Republic FC on Tuesday.
Jordan Morris opened the scoring in the first half with his eighth goal of the season, tying him with Raúl Ruidíaz for the team lead. This goal also moved Morris closer to Fredy Montero’s club record, as he now has 74 goals across all competitions for the Sounders. Albert Rusnák assisted on Morris' goal, marking his 10th assist of the season, a feat he has achieved three times since joining MLS in 2017. Rusnák continued his excellent form by scoring his third goal of the season in the second half, extending his streak to six games with a goal or an assist, totaling three goals and five assists in that span.
With this victory, Seattle jumped to sixth place in the Western Conference with 31 points (8-7-7), just one point behind fifth-place Vancouver and three points from fourth-place Colorado. The Sounders are now unbeaten in their last five matches and have only lost twice in their last 15 games across all competitions. The team has won four consecutive home matches for the first time since 2020 and has consistently scored multiple goals in five consecutive matches, tying the third longest streak in club history. Seattle will aim to carry this momentum into their upcoming matches, including the critical U.S. Open Cup Quarterfinal against Sacramento Republic FC.
