Seattle Sounders Dominate LAFC in 5-2 Goal Fest at Lumen Field
Seattle Sounders made a statement on Saturday, thrashing LAFC 5-2 in front of a roaring home crowd at Lumen Field. The victory not only secured Seattle’s first win of the 2025 MLS season but also ended LAFC’s undefeated start, showcasing the Sounders’ attacking firepower.
The action kicked off early, with Kalani Kossa-Rienzi marking his first home start with a dream goal in the 11th minute. The young midfielder latched onto a slick pass from Jesús Ferreira, danced past a defender, and calmly slotted the ball into the net—his first-ever MLS goal. The home fans erupted, sensing a big night ahead.
Despite Seattle’s early dominance, LAFC clawed back before halftime. Nathan Ordaz found the equalizer in the 38th minute, bundling home a loose ball off a chaotic corner kick. The visitors hoped the goal would shift momentum in their favor, but Seattle had other ideas.
The second half belonged to the Sounders. In the 57th minute, Paul Rothrock unleashed a thunderous strike from outside the box, catching LAFC’s defense off guard and putting Seattle back in front. Then came the history-making moment—Jordan Morris, ever the hero for the Sounders, added a third goal in the 77th minute, becoming the club’s all-time leading scorer with 87 goals in all competitions.
With LAFC reeling, Cristian Roldan joined the party in the 84th minute, curling a precise shot into the bottom corner to make it 4-1. The visitors managed a late consolation goal through David Martínez in stoppage time, but Seattle refused to let them have the final say. Just moments later, Albert Rusnák capped off the night with a tidy finish in the 94th minute, sending Sounders fans home in celebration.
The emphatic victory not only boosts Seattle’s confidence heading into their next MLS fixtures but also serves as a warning to the rest of the league: the Sounders are back in business. Next up, they turn their attention to a high-stakes Concacaf Champions Cup matchup against Cruz Azul. If this performance was any indication, Seattle is ready for the challenge.
