New England Revolution x Austin FC
The New England Revolution and Austin FC clashed in a nail-biting showdown at Gillette Stadium, ending in an action-packed 2-2 draw on a Saturday night to remember. The Revs continued their unbeaten run at home, now boasting an impressive record and closing in on their club's unbeaten home record of 17 games.
Things got heated in the 27th minute when Austin FC's Emiliano Rigoni scored a cheeky bouncing shot that managed to sneak past the outstretched arms of Earl Edwards Jr., New England's steadfast goalkeeper. This put the visitors ahead and had the crowd on edge.
But the Revs wasted no time in responding with a moment of brilliance just over a minute later. Tomás Chancalay, making his mark in his second start for the team, scored his first-ever MLS goal. The goal was the result of a slick combo between Carles Gil and Ian Harkes on the right side, and Chancalay finished it off with style from six yards out.
Chancalay wasn't done making waves, though. He kicked off the second half with a bang, heading in a perfectly placed cross from Nacho Gil at the back post. This marked Nacho Gil's first MLS assist and solidified Chancalay's status as a rising star. His performance included five shots, with three on target, and he became the first Revs player since the elder Gil in 2019 to score multiple goals within his first three appearances for the club.
With the Revs on the brink of victory, Austin FC managed a dramatic equalizer deep into second-half stoppage time, courtesy of Alex Ring. The result ended the Revs' streak of six consecutive home wins in league play, but the thrilling contest left fans buzzing.
