In their Pride Match, OL Reign defeated Kansas City Current by a score of 2-1. Saturday night's match between the Reign and the Current was played in front of the fourth-largest crowd in the club's history. The Reign dominated the Current, earning all three points. The evening started off to a bad start for the Reign when forward Megan Rapinoe was injured after just five minutes of play and had to be replaced two minutes later.
In the 34th minute of the match, Kansas City was called for a handball in the penalty area, resulting in a penalty against them. Typically, Rapinoe would take the kick, but when she was substituted off the field, Huerta stepped up to take the kick. With self-assurance and composure, Huerta fired the ball low and to the left, finding the back of the net and making it 1-0.
The Reign did not make any substitutions at the beginning of the second half and continued to challenge the Current on both ends of the field.
KC appeared to have tied the game in the 59th minute, but a video review revealed that there was an infraction prior to the goal, so the goal was ruled off. After less than ten minutes, it was OL Reign's turn to score again. Huerta, who had already scored, lobbed the ball into the penalty area for Jordyn Huitema. Huitema used her head to defeat KC goalkeeper Cassie Miller and double OL Reign's lead.
The referees added a minimum of five minutes of stoppage time as the match neared its conclusion. In the first minute of extra time, Kansas City scored their first and only goal. Mimmi Larsson and Izzy Rodriguez, both substitutes, combined to score the goal. Nonetheless, it was not enough for Kansas City, as OL Reign claimed all three points at the final whistle just minutes later.
