Chicago fire x nycfc
On Wednesday evening, Chicago Fire FC and 10-man New York City FC battled to a 0-0 draw at Soldier Field. Both clubs were disappointed to see their three-match winning streak come to an end, as NYCFC's remarkable run came to a stop. After Keaton Parks was handed a second yellow card, Chicago, which is at the bottom of the Eastern Conference, may rue not taking advantage of having a man advantage for the last 20 minutes.
Due to an injury to Bobby Shuttleworth, the Fire were forced to rely on Gabriel Slonina, a 17-year-old homegrown goalie. The Addison, Illinois native became the youngest goalie in Major League Soccer history to start a game. The teenager appeared up to the task, holding one of the East's greatest attacking sides scoreless for 90 minutes. During the first half, NYCFC was stymied by the Fire defense, who held firm against their onslaught. Thiago Andrade, a young Brazilian star, was electrifying with his speed, but nothing happened for the guests in the opening 45 minutes.
Chinoso Offor, a striker for the Chicago Fire, was exceptional in finding space and dividing the New York City FC defense. Early in the half, the 21-year-old Nigerian had the greatest chance of the half for the hosts, but the offside flag was raised as soon as the ball reached his foot.
Following the halfway break, each team had a solid chance at the net. For the visitors, it was Valentin Castellanos, whose right-footed shot was stopped by Slonina. The Fire then received a corner kick less than 60 seconds later, but did nothing with it.
Despite their lead following Parks' dismissal in the 73rd minute, the Fire were unable to ignite their assault in the remaining minutes of the game, and the two teams were forced to settle for a draw.
