New England revolution x Columbus crew

Goalkeeper Eloy Room battled through evident discomfort late to lead the Columbus Crew to secure a tense 1-1 tie against the New England Revolution on Saturday night at Gillette Stadium. Gyasi Zardes scored his fifth goal of the season in the 58th minute. Four minutes after Zardes placed Columbus ahead, Adam Buksa capitalized on Jonathan Mensah's turnover to tie the game for the Supporters' Shield leaders. This was Buksa's 11th goal of the season.

Despite the fact that the draw keeps the Crew out of the Eastern Conference playoff picture, it was definitely a moral win for the visitors on a night when they were outshot 33-6. After Room sustained a non-contact leg injury that significantly restricted his movement – and manager Caleb Porter had already utilized all of his replacements – it became even more significant.

This was an excellent result for Columbus, especially considering the Revs had only lost five points in Foxborough previous to Saturday. They'll have to build on it now since they're still four points behind the East playoff line. New England's manager, Bruce Arena, may see this as a gift in disguise as he prepares for the Audi MLS Cup Playoffs in 2021, a warning of the consequences of not being ruthless with your opportunities.
