NEW ENGLAND REVOLUTION x nycfc

Red-hot Tajon Buchanan scored the New England Revolution's second-half winner in a 2-1 victory against 10-man New York City FC at Gillette Stadium on Saturday night, extending his goal-scoring run to four straight league matches in which he has played. Buchanan got a ball from Carles Gil and scored the game-winning goal with a first-time shot from 16 yards out into the side netting. Gil's 16th assist of the season tied for first in the league, and Buchanan's eighth goal of the season.

Gil, who is recovering from an injury, came on at the start of the second half, while Buchanan and Adam Buksa were introduced at the hour mark following strong performances for their national teams in the World Cup qualifiers in September. In Canada's 3-0 triumph over El Salvador, Buchanan had a goal and an assist, while Buksa scored four goals in his first three appearances for Poland.

Alfredo Morales was sent off for a second bookable offense in the 53rd minute, leaving a boot on Tommy McNamara while stretching out for the ball, reducing NYCFC to ten men.

In the 11th minute, New York City FC took the lead when Taty Castellanos cut inside before sending a pass into the path of Santiago Rodriguez with the outside of his right foot. From well beyond the six-yard box, the Uruguayan midfielder slid a first-time effort past Matt Turner.

Teal Bunbury collected a long ball and sent a low cross into the box that eluded a trio of NYCFC defenders 10 minutes later to equalize. Emmanuel Boateng scored his third goal of the season after a touch from Edward Kizza. Thiago Andrade beat Turner to a Castellanos pass into the area in the 37th minute and tapped into the far post. Henry Kessler, on the other hand, performed well to sprint back and clear the line.

If this was a matchup between the East's top two teams, as many have speculated, the Revs demonstrated why they had a 14-point lead over the rest of the pack. They took the game to the visitors after conceding early, dominated possession, and gained three well-deserved points in front of a large Saturday night crowd at Gillette. NYCFC, which will be without important pair Jesus Medina and Maxi Moralez due to suspension, will try to avenge two straight losses against FC Dallas on Tuesday but will be without Castellanos and Morales due to suspension.
