Racing Louisville x OL Reign
On the road, the OL Reign drew with Racing Louisville FC for the second time this season. The Reign were down a goal at halftime, but Bethany Balcer scored in the second half to tie the game. OL Reign had 60.2 percent of the match's possession in the first half but struggled to connect passes in places where Louisville was a threat. While behind in possession, the host team made many attacks on the OL Reign's flanks on both sides of the field.
Nadia Nadim came on the end of a pass sent through and completed her effort from inside the box in the 23rd minute, giving Racing Louisville the lead. After the goal, the OL Reign had five chances to equalize before the half ended, but none of them were successful. After halftime, the OL Reign came out firing in the second half, putting 15 shots on Louisville goalie Michelle Betos. The tone of the game altered when OL Reign made a double substitution in the 60th minute, bringing in Quinn and Jess Fishlock.
The two midfielders breathed fresh energy into the Reign, who were playing their third game in as many weeks and their second game on the road. OL Reign scored the goal they had been pursuing for nearly 50 minutes in the 74th minute. Sofia Huerta advanced up the field from her right back position and sent a well-placed cross into the box. Bethany Balcer put her head on the ball and beat Betos in goal to tie the game and grab the lead in the NWSL Golden Boot competition.
The squad will attempt to keep their perfect record intact as they travel to Washington, D.C. on Sunday, September 12 to face the Washington Spirit in their third straight away game.
