Philadelphia Union x Inter miami CF

Never count out brotherly love in Philadelphia. It was Gonzalo Higuain’s second time in Philadelphia after his debut match last year in Philadelphia for the club and the pressure was certainly on him to step up after skying his PK in the previous outing. The match would start off as a chippy back and forth as each time fought back and forth for the edge. Miami would strike the post early in the first half but that would be about as far as the chances went for both teams in the first 45. However, early into the second half the Union would make the breakthrough with a slotted goal from Jamiro Monteiro from the top of the box.. The lead would not last too long for Philly though. If there’s one thing that always comes back to haunt fans it’s banter and on this occasion Gonzalo silenced the crowd at Subaru Park. He would go up for a rising header striking the ball into the back of the net with a powerful header to put Miami level in the match later that night. Just a few short minutes later it would be his older brother that would round out the evening for Miami with an almost identical headed goal shattering the morale of the Union for the evening. Celebration abound for Miami finding their first win of the season under what would later become known to be tragic off the pitch news. It would later become known that early Monday morning the mother of Federico and Gonzalo had unfortunately passed away after a battle with an ongoing illness. This performance, almost as if poetic, was an amazing testament to the two brothers and how life lead them back together here in Miami. It would turn out to be a special night together for the two, with their family ties shining through in their performance. We may never know the actual gravity of what the celebratory embrace meant for the two in their second goal celebration. The ICONIC team would like to extend their thoughts and prayers to the Higuain family in this tough time. We are all truly one large family in soccer and across all fandoms we support each other, always.
