Atlanta United rallied from a 3-1 second-half hole Saturday afternoon at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, drawing 3-3 with CF Montréal thanks to a pair of late golazos by Thiago Almada and Brooks Lennon. Montréal, who were playing on short rest after their Concacaf Champions League quarterfinal match against Liga MX's Cruz Azul on Wednesday evening, fell behind early when a careless giveaway gave Josef Martinez a free path to goal in the sixth minute.

CFM fought back with three goals in a quarter-hour, including goals from Djordje Mihailovic and Ismael Kone, as well as a Romell Quioto penalty kick, to put the visitors up 3-1. Despite playing with ten men when replacement Dom Dwyer was sent off in the 67th minute, three minutes after entering, Atlanta reversed the script in a spectacular manner, despite playing with ten men. The comeback began with Almada's first MLS goal, a long-range golazo in the 85th minute, followed by Lennon's amazing stoppage-time free-kick to earn an improbable point and extend their home unbeaten streak to ten games. In the early stages of the 2022 MLS season, Atlanta United has acquired a flair for late drama. They scored twice in the last embers despite playing a man short for a smash-and-grab point after a stoppage-time goal carried them past Charlotte FC in their previous meeting. Montréal, who came agonizingly close to winning their first league game, flew home after letting it slip away from them.
