Colorado Rapids x Sporting kc
The Colorado Rapids defeated Sporting Kansas City 2-0 on Saturday night at Dick's Sporting Goods Park, with Diego Rubio scoring his second goal of the season midway through the first half and Mark-Anthony Kaye scoring his first early in the second. Colorado's William Yarbrough made four saves for his second straight clean sheet, extending the team's unbeaten streak to 18 regular-season home games dating back to early last season.
After providing the diagonal pass on Rubio's opener, Lucas Esteves left the game midway through the second half with what seemed to be a left hamstring injury. After 26 minutes, Kansas City was forced to make an injury substitute, with Peter Vermes bringing in midfielder Cameron Duke to replace Felipe Hernandez. They've now dropped four straight games on the road in MLS, dating back to a 2-1 loss at Minnesota on Halloween Night last year.
In the 88th minute, Colorado's 17-year-old Homegrown Player Darren Yapi made his MLS debut, replacing Michael Barrios. Former Rapids defender Kortne Ford came in for SKC seven minutes earlier, marking the 26-year-old center back's first MLS minutes since the 2018 season. Ford missed two full seasons due to knee surgery before returning to the game in August 2021 as a loan player for San Antonio FC in the USL Championship.
