Seattle Sounders x Club León
Seattle Sounders FC remain in control of their Concacaf Champions League quarterfinal series with Liga MX's Club León with a 3-0 win at Lumen Field on Tuesday, thanks to a brace from Fredy Montero and a late goal from Jordan Morris. Montero pushed the Sounders up in the first half with two goals in an eight-minute stretch, and Morris added the third off Cristian Roldan's second assist of the game shortly before the final whistle.
Montero scored the game's first goal soon after the half-hour mark when referee Bryan López gave the Sounders a penalty kick after Roldan was pulled down in the León penalty area. Montero was able to go up to the area and drill the finish into the top corner as a result. Montero added a second eight minutes later, latching on to a cross from Roldan and deflecting it past León goalkeeper Rodolfo Cota to give the Sounders a 2-0 lead at halftime.
In the second half, Seattle kept up the pressure, creating a flurry of chances but failing to score a third goal until Morris' late goal. The US international forward scored a close-range goal off another Roldan pass, giving the Sounders a 3-0 lead heading into Leg 2 on March 17 at Estadio León. Seattle couldn't have asked for a better start to their quarterfinal series without Designated Players Ral Ruidaz and Nicolás Lodeiro. If anything, the Rave Green might be a little disappointed that they didn't add a couple more in the second half, when the chances were flowing.
