toronto fc x nycfc
Toronto FC defeated New York City FC 2-1 at BMO Field on Saturday afternoon, scoring two goals in the first half. The game started well for NYCFC, but it was Toronto who scored first against the run of play. Following some good build-up play, Canadian international Jonathan Osorio slipped past Jess Jiménez, who neatly rolled the ball into the far corner for his third goal of the season.
Just before halftime, Brazilian defender Thiago Martins headed an Alejandro Pozuelo free-kick into his own goal by accident, doubling the home side's lead. In injury time, Héber scored a header to pull NYCFC back within one goal, but it was too little, too late for the club. Bob Bradley, TFC's head coach and sporting director, will be overjoyed with his team's win on Saturday, his second in command and against the reigning champions no less. For the first time since October 2020, the Reds have won back-to-back league games. Meanwhile, NYCFC's MLS struggles continue, as they have only one win from five games thus far. They'll turn their attention to the Concacaf Champions League semifinals, where they'll face Seattle Sounders FC in the first leg.
