Atlanta United x New York Red Bulls
Two goals in the first half were enough for the New York Red Bulls to earn a 2-1 win away from home against the Atlanta United FC, keeping the Red Bulls unbeaten against the Atlanta club this MLS season. Two goals, scored by Lewis Morgan and John Tolkin, were subject to video review, but New York ultimately conceded a late goal and lost their clean sheet.
In the eleventh minute, New York got on the board when Morgan slammed a shot into the back of the goal after receiving a pass from Cristian Cásseres Jr. that had been flicked on by Kyle Duncan from the near corner of the field. Four minutes later, the visitors extended their lead to 2-0 when Tolkin sent the ball to Cásseres Jr. on a short corner kick. Right away, Cásseres Jr. gave it back to Tolkin, who dribbled a few times before sending in a shot that sailed in. Daniel Edelman, Cristian Cáseres Jr., and Luquinhas all put up solid performances for the Red Bulls in this one. Edelman, who is just 19, played the entire 90 minutes in his second Major League Soccer start. The Red Bulls would go on to win the match 2-1 despite a late goal from Atlanta in stoppage time.
The next home game for the Red Bulls is on Saturday, August 20, against FC Cincinnati, after their meeting on Wednesday.
