CHARLOTTE FC X CHELSEA

A match that stunned the soccer globe. A team that dominates the Premier League, Chelsea, was defeated by Charlotte FC, a fledgling MLS side that hasn't even been around for a complete year.

The game's lone goal for Chelsea came in the 30th minute when Christian Pulisic was stopped by Guzman Corujo after receiving a ball from Michy Batshuayi. The goalie stumbled in the box as a result of the deflection, giving Pulisic enough time to score on the other side of the goal. Pulisic had a chance to score his second goal three minutes later when he came rushing down the middle in Charlotte's end, eluding all the defenders. When he was about to shoot after receiving a cross, he just barely scratched it, but it wasn't enough to stop the ball. In the 35th minute, Batshuayi had a clear shot at an easy goal, but Kristijan Kahlina came out of the box to get a leg on the ball for the save.

George Marks entered the game as a substitute at halftime, and when he came up against the whole Chelsea squad, which kept trying to score but was thwarted by strong defense from Charlotte, he instantly made his presence known. Ethan Empadu gained possession of the ball following the altercation and maneuvered the defender before shooting. However, the ball hit a Charlotte defender first, then bounced off another player and nearly went in for a goal, but Marks was on there to save it. When he took a penalty shot that forced the game into penalty kicks, Daniel Rios emerged as the game's hero. In the five-round shootout, Charlotte and Chelsea traded blows while just three goals were scored by Chelsea. Charlotte made all five of their shots.
