The Los Angeles Galaxy won the first El Trafico Open Cup, scoring three second-half goals on route to a 3-1 victory over LAFC at Dignity Health Sports Park. Kevin Cabral scored for LA Galaxy 51 minutes into the game. Chicharito scored the second six minutes later with a first-time finish on Samuel Grandsir's cross. In the 81st minute, Dejan Jovelji added a critical third goal, while Ryan Hollingshead of LAFC scored a consolation goal in the 85th minute.

The San Jose Earthquakes, the Galaxy's older California Clasico opponents, were stunned by the Sacramento Republic of the USL Championship, who will meet LA in the quarterfinals on June 21. So the Galaxy are three games away from earning their third Open Cup title, and the historic occasion may be assisting them in regaining the club’s identity that they have long been searching for as of late.
