Colorado Rapids x San Jose Earthquakes
Colorado kept their playoff hopes alive with a win over San Jose.
Diego Rubio scored the game's first goal for Colorado in the 21st minute on a rebound from a defender. San Jose didn't score until the 37th minute when Nathan Cardoso headed home a cross from Cristian Espinoza. A strong right-footed shot by Jamiro Monteiro gave San Jose the opportunity to level the game early in the second half, but William Yarbrough stopped it. Throughout the first half, both teams applied pressure to extend their leads.
With a powerful effort from outside the box that found the back of the net in the 77th minute, Keegan Rosenberry preserved Colorado's chances of making the playoffs with a golazo of a goal. Earlier in the half, Colorado had opportunities to take the lead, including one play in which Felipe Gutierrez attempted to cross to Lalas Abubakar, who was positioned in the right corner against the goalie, but the attempt was judged unsuccessful. San Jose attempted to score a goal, but it was somewhat high and hit the crossbar, which was unfortunate for San Jose. When he took a pass from Monteiro and attempted to bike it in, Jeremy Ebobisse gave San Jose one final chance to keep their playoff chances alive, but his attempt was a touch high.
