OL Reign x Chicago Red Stars
The final score at Lumen Field was 2-2 after a hard-fought match between OL Reign and the Chicago Red Stars. They were up 1-0 early, then OL Reign gave up two goals before coming back to tie the game.
OL Reign's offense was particularly potent in the opening half. They had a number of excellent scoring opportunities. They took two shots in the 12th and 18th minutes before ultimately scoring. Jordyn Huitema tried and missed the goal twice before scoring on the rebound in the lower right corner. OL Reign had the lead until Chicago scored in the final seconds of the first half to make it a tie game. After a flurry of activity in the penalty area, OL Reign forward Ella Stevens buried a low shot into the left corner of the net.
Right after the break, the Red Stars rode their momentum and scored first. OL Reign was awarded a penalty kick by the referee after committing a handball within their own penalty area. Visiting side midfielder Danielle Colaprico calmly converted a penalty kick in the 68th minute to put her team ahead. The clock was winding down, but OL Reign kept pushing forward in hopes of scoring a late equalizer. Up front, Megan Rapinoe sent the ball to Rose Lavelle in the middle. The Reign salvaged a point thanks to a powerful shot from outside the box that Lavelle took.
