Olympique Lyonnais vs CF Monterrey
At the Women's International Cup, Lindsey Horan secured the victory with two goals in the opening period.
The first half got off to a good start with opportunities from both teams to take the lead. Lyon got a big break in the 38th minute when a foul was called against Monterrey which resulted in a PK taken by Lindsey Horan. Lindsey banks one in the bottom left corner of the net to make it 1-0 Lyon. Lyon wasn't done and applied more pressure. Not even five minutes later, Lindsey found the back of the net again. This time, she received a beautiful cross from Melvine Malard that she kicked while falling sideways and managed to have the ball bounced in the net for a 2-0 lead.
Lyon came back from halftime with pressure. CF Monterrey decides to double-team some players to box them out there will be no room to create opportunities. They tried this out in the 51st minute but it eventually led to another Lyon goal. Monterrey tried a double coverage on Delphine Cascarino in the corner but Dephine dribbled around them when she lost the ball on the line, she stayed with her defender which forced the defender to kick it back to the middle of the box. Informally, Sara Däbritz, a Lyon player, was there to kick it in for a goal to give Lyon a commanding 3-0 lead. Substitutions were made in the 61st minute for both teams. Lyon bought in Signe Bruun for Melvine Malard and Monterry bought in Samantha Simental for Diana Evangelista. It didn't take long for Signe to make her presence noticed. In the 64th minute, Monterrey made a mistake when a player tried to play the ball back to another player. Turns out the player who received the ball was covered by two Lyon defenders, Eugénie Le Sommer and Signe Bruun. Eugénie Le Sommer eventually got the turnover and then immediately passed it to Signe for the goal of securely winning the game for Lyon and securing the trophy as well.
