Philadelphia Union x Colorado Rapids
The Union scored 6 goals in their second straight game to win at home in front of a home crowd of 18,005
The Union immediately enthralled the crowd by scoring goals. All three of the first half's goals were scored within the opening 30 minutes. The first two goals came from Dániel Gazdag. His first goal was deflected off of Mikael Uhre's chest after Kai Wagner had initially sent him a long cross. While Colorado made every effort to score off of Andre Blake, they were unable to accomplish so. After a penalty call and subsequent penalty shoot in the 20th minute, Gazdag scored his second goal. When Gazdag attempted to evade some defenders, he was just pushed rather than guarded. He hit the bottom right corner of the goal with his successful PK attempt. The Union received another penalty kick as Collen Warner fouled Olivier Mbaizo unnecessarily as they kept up their relentless attack and forced Colorado's defense into costly mistakes. This time, Julián Carranza successfully converted the penalty kick, giving the team a dominating 3-0 advantage. The Rapids received further bad news when Colorado was reduced to 10 men in the 34th minute as Gustavo Vallecilla was given a red card and sent off.
The Union carried over their performance from the first half into the second. They put their defense and offense on high alert, making it nearly impossible for the Rapids to make any progress. Union made a few scoring attempts before scoring their fourth goal in the 83rd minute. With help from Cory Burke, Daniel Gazdag completed his hat trick. Cory Burke scored after a ball that was originally a shot by Bedoya but ricocheted off the goalkeeper four minutes later to make it 5-0. With his goal in the 91st minute, Matt Real concluded the Union's commanding performance. Kai Wagner, who had defenders surrounding him, assisted the goal in extra time by passing the ball backward after making his run down the sideline. Philly takes yet another three points after a massive performance.
