Olympique Lyonnais x Chelsea FC
In the International Women's Cup, Lyon faced Chelsea FC and won 4-3 in penalty kicks to advance.
the game. Chelsea added pressure by offering extensive scoring chances while making the game difficult for Lyon. Sam Kerr attempted to head in a corner kick in the 38th minute, but the goalkeeper blocked it. The ball was in play and almost won, but a Lyron's defender was on the goal post and kicked it out.
After the break, Chelsea didn't waste much time scoring their second goal. This time, Lauren James scored on a gorgeous shot that curved inside and into the top left corner of the goal. Sam Kerr contributed to that goal with an assist. Sam continued to leave her mark on the pitch despite coming close to adding another assist to an already remarkable performance. Sam was midway through her running path when she passed the ball for an easy goal despite being defended by two players. Unfortunately, shooting the ball while the off-balance is not an easy task, as the ball went straight out of bounds rather than into the goal. Lyon scored in the 76th minute when Lindsey Horan took a free kick and power-kicked it into the left side of the goal, making it hard for the goalkeeper to block. Lyon scored to send it to a penalty kick in the very last group of minutes. After the initial ball struck the post and deflected, Signe Bruun converted the penalty when she stood directly right in front of the goal line to kick it in for a goal.
Lyon would go on to win in PKs in the final round thanks to Inès Benyahia.
