OL Reign x Houston Dash
On Saturday night, second-half goals from strikers Veronica Latsko and Jordyn Huitema helped the OL Reign upset the Houston Dash, 2-0, to reclaim first place in the NWSL rankings.
The Reign took the lead in the 53rd minute with a goal scored by forward Veronica Latsko shortly after the halftime break. Rapinoe ran down the left flank and blasted a right-footed pass at Latsko just before the penalty spot. Latsko was in a good position to direct the incoming ball toward the far post and beat Campbell with a clever header that went through the side netting and into the back of the goal.
Seven minutes later, OL Reign almost increased their advantage via Huitema again, but this time her headed attempt did not fit within the frame of the goal, and she watched helplessly as the ball ricocheted off the post and back into play, with Houston ultimately clearing the ball.
Huitema kept at it, and in the 68th minute, her hard work paid off as she scored on a headed attempt from within the box. Veronica Latsko's right-wing cross found the head of Reign forward Huitema, and despite Campbell's best efforts to keep the ball out, Huitema nodded it in for the Reign's second goal of the match.
In the 85th minute, Houston's Allysha Chapman crossed the ball in from the left side for Bárbara Olivieri, but Olivieri's header flew high and wide of Tullis-Joyce's goal, and Houston's opportunity to pull one back was lost.
The Reign completed their 2-0 victory after seven minutes of stoppage time in a game in which Houston was never able to break through.
