Portland Timbers x Seattle Sounders
Sounders FC secured a thrilling 2-1 victory over the Portland Timbers at Providence Park, with goals from Cristian Roldan and Raúl Ruidíaz propelling the Rave Green to victory in their historic Cascadia rivalry. The win marked the 120th all-time meeting between the two sides, with Seattle now holding a 57-46-17 advantage in the series.
With the result, Seattle climbed into 10th place in the Western Conference standings, just three points below the playoff line. Brian Schmetzer’s side will continue their road swing with a matchup against Real Salt Lake on Wednesday, May 15, before returning home to host Vancouver Whitecaps FC on Saturday, May 18.
In a match filled with significance, Cristian Roldan opened the scoring for Sounders FC in the first half, notching his first goal of the 2024 campaign. Raúl Ruidíaz extended the lead with a second-half strike, marking his team-leading seventh goal of the season and his 85th goal for Sounders FC across all competitions, the most in club history.
The victory also saw several notable milestones, including Ruidíaz becoming the all-time leading goal scorer against the Timbers in MLS play. Additionally, Cristian Roldan moved into sole possession of second place in club history for assists across all competitions, highlighting the depth of talent within the Sounders roster.
