portland timbers x fc dallas
Jeremy Ebobisse scored the game-winning goal in the 84th minute to lift the Portland Timbers to a 1-0 victory over FC Dallas at Providence Park on Saturday. Throughout the night, neither team was able to generate much traction, with each team only managing one shot on goal until Ebobisse's late strike ensured the Timbers took all three points.
FC Dallas had two good chances in the first half as the game approached halftime, thanks to homegrown attackers Ricardo Pepi and Paxton Pomykal. Pomykal then nearly opened the scoring three minutes after the break, hitting a left-footed first-time volley on goal, but it was denied by a reaction save from Timbers goalkeeper Steve Clark.
Dairon Asprilla had the best chance for the home team in the first half, with a powerful long-range shot that forced FC Dallas goalkeeper Jimmy Maurer into a save that kept the game scoreless at halftime.
It would remain that way until the 84th minute when Ebobisse scored a huge game-winning goal. The forward took matters into his own hands, making a charging run on the counterattack and unleashing a laser shot that went past Maurer and into the top netting, giving the Timbers the decisive goal and sending the Providence crowd into a frenzy.
The Timbers will breathe a sigh of relief as a result of Ebobisse's late heroics, as they were in danger of dropping a pair of home points to a Dallas team that has yet to win a single game on the road this season. Instead, Gio Savarese’s squad has an important three-point result to build on as they continue to regain full strength and attempt to reclaim first place in the Western Conference table.
