Philadelphia union x dc united
Kacper Przybylko scored in the 83rd minute as the Philadelphia Union defeated D.C. United 2-1 on Saturday night at Subaru Park, overcoming a penalty and two unfavorable video reviews. Santos' slow start to the season hadn't been a major issue because the Union were still finding ways to win. However, with Cory Burke representing Jamaica in the Concacaf Gold Cup, Ilsinho still recovering from a groin injury, and Anthony Fontana still in the league's concussion protocol, the Brazilian has come on at a crucial time, scoring goals in consecutive games for his second and third of the season.
Sergio Santos assisted Przybylko's winner 72 minutes after he opened the scoring for Philadelphia, ending a rare three-match winless streak and extending their home winning streak against D.C. to eight games. After the play was halted in the 86th minute, the Union had to wait almost two hours for the three points to become official. There were no clear chances in the final minutes of the match after it was restarted.
To make matters worse for D.C., forward Adrien Perez, midfielder Russell Canouse, and defender Steve Birnbaum all left the game in apparent injury-related substitutions. Yordy Reyna earned the penalty for D.C. after absorbing a challenge from Santos during a 20-minute stretch in which Philadelphia struggled.
Referee Alex Chilowicz used Video Review in the 55th minute to overturn a penalty awarded to Philadelphia. In the 71st minute, he used another review to correctly overturn Santos' apparent second goal of the night, ruling the striker offside.
