Atlanta united x cf Montreal
On Saturday night, Atlanta United won a dramatic 1-0 draw against CF Montreal thanks to a Marcelino Moreno header off a long cross from Jake Mulraney. Only one of Atlanta's past three games have ended in a victory, but both came at home. Despite multiple near-scoring chances, Montreal couldn't build on the momentum it showed in its earlier match against Inter Miami. Both teams were likely frustrated by the lack of consistency on the offensive end, as it looked like the game would end in a scoreless draw. With 40,116 fans in attendance, Atlanta hosted the largest soccer crowd in the world since March 2020. Over 90 minutes went by before Mulraney found Moreno with a perfectly timed header that sneaked inside the far post sending the Benz into raptures. It was Moreno's second goal of the season after scoring against New England earlier in the season. Ahead of the final whistle, Atlanta goalkeeper Brad Guzan made an incredible save to keep Montreal from securing a draw. Atlanta ended up dominating attacking possession even though both teams finished with similar shots on goal. Emerson Hyndman nearly put Atlanta on the board in the 51st minute, but it would be called offside after his shot found the back of the net. The lone bright spot for Montreal came in the 69th minute when Romell Quioto came close to a late equalizer but was also ruled offside. Quioto was carried off the field on a stretcher in the 72nd minute.
