Atlanta United led for 74 minutes, but two late goals from Hany Mukhtar shocked the Mercedes-Benz Stadium public as Nashville SC scavenged a 2-2 draw to remain one of the league's only unbeaten teams.
Atlanta took only five and a half minutes to open the scoring. Miles Robinson sent a perfect lobbed through ball for Marcelino Moreno, who dribbled past Nashville defenders before his shot crept past Joe Willis and into the net.
Willis redeemed himself in the 18th minute with a big save that kept the score at 1-0. Atlanta roared towards goal on a counterattack, and after Josef Martinez was dispossessed, Erik López tried his luck off a loose ball from the top of the box. Willis was able to extend his hand and make the save after the shot was deflected in front of goal.
López would not have to wait too long to earn his first MLS goal. Moreno created an opportunity in the 51st minute with a great run down the middle of the field before feeding the ball to George Bello on the left flank. López slipped past the backline and fooled Willis with a cheeky back flick in mid-air from Bellow's cross into the six-yard box to give Atlanta a two-goal lead.
At the 65th minute, López was on the verge of adding a second goal to his tally and putting the game to bed. Bello played a through ball into the space for López, who was in on goal. The Argentine sent the ball into the upper left corner, but his effort sailed just over the crossbar.
Nashville, on the other hand, was determined not to suffer their first loss of the season. Brad Guzan denied C.J. Sapong late in the game, but Atlanta's defense would relinquish a goal seconds later. Daniel Lovitz tore down the left flank and crossed back to Mukhtar. The German had a pocket of space where he would fire off a shot towards the far post, bringing the score to 2-1.
Mukhtar wasn't finished yet. Three minutes later, a Matt LaGrassa shot deflected off Robinson and landed at the feet of the Nashville DP. Mukhtar took advantage of the opportunity to score his second goal and steal two points from Atlanta.
