Orlando pride x north caronlina courage
Following a 2-0 win over the Orlando Pride on the road tonight, the North Carolina Courage is currently holding tightly onto first place in the NWSL. Debinha and Solaun scored in the game on Sunday, while Murphy kept her fourth clean sheet of the season.
Debina intercepted the ball in the third minute, capitalizing on an Orlando defensive blunder and putting the ball into the bottom left corner of the net. Jessica McDonald then drove down the end line and sent a ball into the 18 that rebounded off an Orlando Pride defender and nearly resulted in an own goal 20 minutes later.
McDonald kept up her offensive pressure late in the half, creating another deadly opportunity. She was tackled from behind as she drove into the area, resulting in a foul and a penalty kick. Lynn Williams took the resulting penalty kick, but Orlando goalkeeper Ashlyn Harris saved her attempt.
Havana Solaun scored her first goal for the Courage midway through the second half, extending the Courage's margin to 2-0. The build-up began with Angharad James' lofted ball in, which shifted the point of attack and found Lynn Williams' feet. Williams delivered the ball to McDonald, who settled it in the area before passing it to Solaun, who hammered a shot home into the top left corner. This secured the win for the Courage and first place in the NWSL.
