colorado rapids x portland timbers
In a game that had multiple opportunities from both teams, both goalkeepers were up for the task. Within the first 20 minutes, the Rapids had an opportunity to go ahead with a shot on goal by midfielder Mark-Anthony Kaye but Portland’s goalkeeper reached out across the net to swat it away. When a corner kick was called, it was initially a goal from Lalas Abubakar but VAR overturned it by a rule of offside. It would remain scoreless until Diego Rubio of Colorado Rapid scores on a free kick in the 30th minute by shooting the ball in the upper left corner of the net. In the 42nd minute, Portland had a chance to even the score before the half but netminder William Yarbrough had other plans by remaining large and completely shutting that chance down.
The second half proved no different than the first half, with multiple shots on goals. In the 55th minute, Gyasi Zardes had an opportunity to put the Rapids up 2-0 with his scoring chance but it came wide right. In the 66th minute, Diego Rubio, the only goalscorer of the game was issued a red card thus ending his night and Colorado having to play with 10 men. It was still 1-null until Mark-Anthony Kaye scores just outside the penalty box in the 95th minute making a shutout of 2-0 against the Timbers.
