Gotham fc x chicago red stars
Gotham FC defeated the Chicago Red Stars 2-1 at Red Bull Arena on Sunday. Allie Long scored in the first half and Midge Purce converted a penalty kick in the second half to secure all three points for Gotham. For the first time in franchise history, Gotham has begun the season with only one loss in ten games.
Caprice Dydasco made a long pass into the box that was intercepted by Long, who deflected it into the back of the net three minutes into first-half stoppage time putting Gotham up 1-0.
The second half would kick off with a lot of back and forth action with both teams creating chances. However, after a foul from behind inside the box in the 70th minute, the hosts were given a penalty kick. Purce's club has won all but one game when she has scored and this would end up being no exception.
Six minutes into second-half extra time, the Red Stars struck the back of the net. Makenzy Doniak received the ball from Katie Johnson and blasted a shot to the left side of the net, narrowly beyond the diving goalie. Giving Chicago a consolation goal but not allowing them the chance to mount their comeback.
