new england revolution x fc Cincinnati
The New England Revolution, who are now leading the Supporters' Shield, thrashed FC Cincinnati 4-1 at Gillette Stadium on Saturday evening. Tajon Buchanan's first-half masterpiece, in which he scored the opening goal and assisted on the second, helped the Revs win their fourth consecutive game and extend their undefeated streak to nine games. Adam Buksa also had a hat trick, while Emmanuel Boateng had a goal and an assist. Buchanan opened the scoring in the 7th minute, pouncing on a rebound and firing home from close range, while Boateng doubled their lead 14 minutes later. After some deft footwork in the area, Buchanan threw the ball across the box, where Boateng smashed it first-time into the net. Buksa scored his third goal in the 33rd minute with a spectacular solo effort, after tripping and tumbling to the ground in the box.
In the second half, record-signing Brenner gave Cincinnati a ray of optimism when he blasted home his fifth goal of the season. The Brazilian striker caught the Revolution defenders off guard and sneaked past goalie Matt Turner with a toe-poke. In the 61st minute, Buksa scored his second goal of the evening, putting the game out of reach. Buksa's one-time strike left Przemyslaw Tyton with little chance after Gustavo Bou delivered the ball across the area.
New England put in a great showing, as they now have a league-leading 44 goals on the season. They continue to win despite the absence of outstanding midfielder Carles Gil, who is still sidelined. It's a terrible road performance for Cincinnati. They didn't appear until the second half, and at that time, it was too late to stage a comeback.
